Dr Phong Ho, General Practitioner in Five Dock, Sydney

About Me

I've spent my career in general practice because I believe it's where medicine makes the most meaningful difference — not in dramatic interventions, but in the steady, ongoing care that helps people live well.

After completing my medical training at the University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, I established My Family Doctors in Five Dock with a clear vision: to create a practice built around genuine, long-term relationships with patients and families. I wanted somewhere people felt known, not just seen.

My approach to care is straightforward. I follow the evidence, I listen carefully and I take the time to explain things properly. Whether it's managing a complex chronic condition, helping a parent navigate their child's health, or working through a preventive health plan, I believe patients deserve a doctor who's thorough, honest and invested in their wellbeing.

Outside the clinic, I'm a keen runner. It's more than a hobby — my interest in cardiovascular fitness and endurance training genuinely shapes how I think about preventive health. I understand firsthand the impact that consistent exercise has on heart health, mental clarity and long-term wellbeing. That personal experience informs the way I counsel patients on lifestyle, exercise and cardiovascular risk.

Clinical Interests

Areas of focus in my practice

Chronic Disease Management

Conditions like diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, asthma and COPD require more than reactive treatment — they need a structured, proactive approach. I work with my patients to develop individualised care plans with clear goals, regular reviews and coordinated support from specialists and allied health professionals. Good chronic disease management means fewer hospital visits, better quality of life and confidence that your health is being actively looked after.

Preventive Medicine & Cardiovascular Health

Prevention is the most powerful tool in medicine. I'm particularly passionate about helping patients understand and manage their cardiovascular risk — through health assessments, lifestyle optimisation and evidence-based screening. Many heart-related conditions are preventable or manageable when caught early and I take a proactive approach to identifying risk factors before they become problems.

Sports & Exercise Medicine

As a runner myself, I have a genuine understanding of how exercise impacts the body — both the benefits and the risks. I help patients with exercise prescription, injury prevention, recovery strategies and cardiovascular endurance. My approach is grounded in evidence, not fads and I work with patients of all fitness levels, from those just starting to move more to experienced athletes looking to optimise their training safely.

Family Health & Paediatrics

Looking after families is at the heart of general practice. I provide care from newborns through to teenagers — including immunisations, developmental assessments, childhood illnesses and parenting guidance. I understand that parents want a GP who's thorough and reassuring and I take the time to explain what's going on and what to expect.

Men's & Women's Health

I offer comprehensive screening and management for health concerns specific to men and women — including hormonal health, reproductive health, mental wellbeing and age-appropriate screening. These conversations deserve a GP who's evidence-based, respectful and creates a comfortable space to discuss sensitive topics.

Sleep Medicine (Obstructive Sleep Apnoea)

Sleep is fundamental to health and obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) is more common than many people realise. I assess and manage patients with sleep-related concerns, coordinate sleep studies and work with specialists to ensure appropriate treatment. Better sleep means better cardiovascular health, mental clarity and overall quality of life.

Mental Health

Mental health is inseparable from physical health. I support patients experiencing anxiety, depression and stress — offering evidence-based treatment options and referral pathways to psychologists, psychiatrists and counsellors. My approach is compassionate, non-judgemental and focused on practical support.
